THE immediate past Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Professor Mahmood Yakubu whose lecture was titled, “Efficient Project Management in Nigerian Universities”, noted that funding of universities was a serious business, warning that projects can fully be valuable and beneficial to the nation when they are well conceptualized, cost-effective and usable after their completion.

OUR paths crossed. We were friends but our bond was brotherly. He was a senior and ever counselling brother. He was always ready to make the age argument. Hence, it was his entitlement at some point when we shared a room in Fajuyi Hall, OAU, Ife, to sleep below while I slept atop our double bunk bed.

WHEN an elected person talks in an official and/or political capacity, the understanding is that he is speaking the mind of the people he represents. The reason is simple – he has a duty to consult with them before making any pronouncement on their behalf.

RECENT deliberations by stakeholders in the education sector offer a bright hope that our ailing universities – if the findings from the brain-storming session are well harnessed and put into use – could be inching to the desired word-class status.
