IN the last eight weeks or so, certain political actions and indiscretion of Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, have unjustifiably put pressure on the Benin Palace and, by implication, the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa, such that the Palace was forced to offer clarifications through press statements on two occasions.

IN reaction to Mallam Nasir el-Rufai’s uninformed piece on Anambra State entitled: “Anambra: Budget of Misplaced Priorities”, many people have written by way of further comments on the subject. Quite unusual of the Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi did a rejoinder himself; he sought to correct a misrepresentation of his State.

INDEED, even after obtaining the Council’s approval, the Governor in some cases was able to prevail on some contractors to further reduce the cost of projects before the contract documents were signed.

I HAD the opportunity to read the piece titled, “Anambra: The limits of propaganda”, written by Mr. Chudi Offodile, a politician of the PDP stock, though a legal practitioner by training, from Anambra State. I feel constrained, having been involved in the government of His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, Governor of Anambra State, from its inception, to correct some of the fallacies contained in the write-up of Mr. Offodile.

Of course, repositioning them will not be easy, due to the poor state of our public service as a whole! It will involve restructuring each agency to be used, and streamlining the regulatory environment of the sector concerned.

AGAIN, Nigeria wept over another avoidable colossal waste of human lives. The crash of the Dana Air Flight 0092 was a direct consequence of disregard for safety standards in pursuit of profits by the management of Dana air coupled with the corruption in the government agencies that regulate the aviation industry.

CONSIDER the ongoing reform that the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (through the Task Force on Port Reforms) is carrying out in our maritime industry, which has led to the reduction of the number of official agencies in our ports, from about 14 to about five; and to the new 24-hour port operations regime.
