SO much effort is being deployed by the image makers of the new governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, to project him as a positive departure from the administration of his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole – an administration of which Obaseki is reputed to have being the “talisman”, for the eight years it lasted. On a regular basis now, we find image building articles in the national dailies, one of which was written by one Ernest Omoarelojie and published in a national daily of January 24, 2017, with the title: Edo: Things are Looking Up.

IN the 30s, 40s and 50s the Reverend Isaac Oladotun Ransome-Kuti and his wife, Olufunmilayo, were in the forefront of the struggle of the Nigerian people against British colonial autocracy. Their Abeokuta home served as the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Teachers and the Nigerian Union of Women founded and led by the Kutis. Bekololari was born in 1940 by the Kutis with a silver spoon. But like his elder brother, Fela, he never used the spoon. Early in life both of them were nurtured in the struggle against injustice and oppression.

IN a recent article, the Messages of Ahiara, an incisive piece buttressed with logic and reason, which refuted some popular but erroneous notions of tribalism and secession in Nigeria, drew a lot of hostile responses from some of my readers. They lobbed curses and hauled invectives at me. However, to me, it was all exhilarating. I relish rejoinders to my writings, be them abusive or appreciative.
