Only two political parties are hopeful of winning the 2012 governorship election in Edo State: The ruling Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. And since it is now clear that ACN is sticking to the comrade governor, it is left for the PDP, as the main opposition party, to provide the state with an alternative whose antecedents do not fall short of the peoples expectation come 2012.

ITis relevant to the healthy development of democracy in Edo State to stress the need for a thorough understanding of the present mood of the people by the contending political parties in the 2012 gubernatorial election in the state.

SHORTLY after the April (2011) legislative elections in Edo State, I wrote an article entitled: “Edo Central Polls: Between Oshiomhole and Hedonism”, which was published in many newspapers and on-line media. It was an incredibly wide publication by all standard for which I remain grateful to the editors of the media organisations who considered the article publishable. But Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s publicists, both former and current, reacted to it unjustifiably because the issue I addressed in the piece was clear: The outcome of the legislative polls in Edo Central. I never delved into Oshiomhole’s performance in office.

OUR government officials are at it again! Instead of fashioning out an effective strategy to mend the broken walls of our educational system, they are warming up for another round of talk show. And to think that these talk shows are not organised with peanuts!

The above question has become relevant against the backdrop of the argument which the proponents of the idea of a Benin Governor for Edo State in 2012 are selling to win over the uninformed to support their cause of getting nomination for the army general political recruit on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) who it seems may need a waiver to be eligible to contest unless he was issued a backdated party membership card, which is not impossible in Nigerian politics.

GOD Almighty alone knows when to create an illustrious son for His people in dire need of financial, moral, patriotic and social upliftments. It was in this wise He gave Abomimi, Enugwu Ukwu, Anambra State and Nigeria a great son named Chief Joel Okoye Ifemelunma Onowu Enugwu Ukwu.
