We all know that aspiring to lead Nigeria pushes the boundaries of ambition to the very end. This is partly because Nigerians have continued to play possum with their future while people facing down the time-ringed barrel have been allowed to continue playing a card of relevance that should have been retrieved from them a long time ago.

He had his flaws. We all do. After all, he was human like the rest of us. Even as the secretary general of the United Nations, he had his fair share of failures and even scandals, yet he was able, in the ten years he was on the saddle, to project not only himself but also the UN as the world’s conscience and moral arbiter.

There is an urgent need for Lagosians to keep vigil with the quality of their representatives across board, from the local government to federal representatives.

A few months ago, the popular American preacher TD Jakes came to the church I attend in London. Preaching on leadership and wealth, he said prayer is not leadership and won’t make anyone rich. “If prayers were enough”, he said, “Nigeria would be one of the richest countries in the world”.

The law that established the appointment of the head of Special Anti-robbery Squad ,SARS needs to be urgently reviewed.
It must have representatives of workers, artisans, youths and students in its decision-making.
