One of the biggest misconceptions of the world, in my opinion, is the view held by some that members of the clergy should not participate in politics or government.

IT was reported in the media last week that President Goodluck Jonathan had signed the National Health Bill into law. As a legal framework for the management and regulation of the health sector the Act has addressed some of the challenges and concerns of the Nigerian people with respect to access to medical care. Unfortunately, some of the provisions of the Act have empowered doctors to violate the right of Nigerians to life by removing the organs of living persons without authorization. Before examining the obnoxious provisions of the Act it is pertinent to note that it is the most comprehensive legislation on healthcare in Nigeria.

AT last the first round of delegate elections in the build-up for the 2015 general elections has ended in Abia state. Candidates have emerged under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party to fly the party’s flag in the main election. It has been a very tensed and uncalm period with tensions and anxiety building up. A lot of horse-trading and intrigues pervaded the polity within the period.

IN 2001 at an Islamic seminar in Kaduna, Buhari was given an opportunity to choose between Nigeria’s secularism and fundamentalist Islam, this is what he said; “I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria”, he then added that; “God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country”.Buhari an advocate of sharia was chosen to address that seminar in Kaduna because of his advocacy and he did not disappoint because he is one of the boardroom voices of Sharia.

SURPRISE. Shock. Upset. Those were some of the words the media used to describe the emergence of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as the Delta PDP gubernatorial flag bearer. But to those who know Senator Okowa, the result of the Delta PDP gubernatorial primary election was anything but surprising. FROM the mysterious Amasuomo creek in Burutu Local Government I have canoed into the River Niger. This is prompted by two developments – the unceasing acidic verbal minimization of President Goodluck Jonathan by Professor Wole Soyinka and the desecration of Soyinka’s personality by John Udumebraye.
