The political struggle that claimed hundreds of thousands of innocent lives in Egypt between 2011 and 2013 re-echoed Sunday night, when “The Square”, a documentary film exploring the country’s political history was screened to open this year’s Africa International Film Festival, AFRIFF, holding in Calabar, Cross River State.

You might not have heard about her, but Nigerian born, U.S -based artist Njideka Akunyili-Crosby has been described by CNN “as one of New York’s most promising new talents”. In pop culture parlance, Njideka is the next big thing in the ART world.

The entire hall was filled with people from all walks of life, especially the men who understands the meaning of classic music and has followed it for years as they came to be part of MUSON festival, and apart from that, many also came to see the new artistic director of Muson, Tunde Jegede perform in one of the events for the 2014 festival tagged Muson Symphony Orchestra.

Recently, in far away America, one of Nigeria’s respected playwright, Prof Tess Onwueme, an eminent University Professor of Global Letters at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire was honoured by her university.
