Edo State government has taken step to recover some landed properties around the old GRA that over years have been occupied by some officers of UNIBEN. When the University of Benin was set up, the then military governor, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, in his wisdom, decided to assist some of the officers with that accommodation.

It was a pitiable sight on Monday, January 5, 2015 seeing the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof.Osayuki Oshodin, at his official residence in GRA, Benin City, as bulldozers were unleashed on the building on the orders of Edo State government. It was about 5pm that day when the bulldozers went to work. Oshodin, who was relaxing after the day’s job, was shocked.

Nothing stampedes Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State into taking action than security issues, those who are close to him are wont say.

A Minister of External Affairs, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, said he was not moved by the Presidency’s dismissal of his advice that possible post-2015 polls unrest be forestalled through an anti-violence agreement by the two major contestants, Peoples Democratic Party’s Dr. Goodluck Ebelle Jonathan and All Progressives Congress’ General Muhammadu Buhari. He said he had done his part.
