CANCER, the dreaded six-letter word, is considered one of the most feared disease conditions on earth. Unfortunately, scientists have not been able to pinpoint what exactly causes cancer. They, however, believe that the only solution is early detection/diagnosis.

Novena University, Ogume, Delta State which prides itself as the only tertiary institution in Nigeria that offers courses on security has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria Police Force to boost security intelligence in the country.

The President, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Comrade C.B. Asomugha, on Wednesday described government’s response to its current strike as haphazard and unconvincing, saying the strike became necessary following the snail speed pace of the review of the Federal Polytechnics Act at the National Assembly.

Although the six-month strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, was called off on December 16, 2013, academic activities have only just begun in earnest in universities across the country.

Many candidates registering for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME, were shocked when they were given the choice to pick only one university of their choice, contrary to the traditional first and second choice options of universities and/or polytechnics. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, responsible for the UTME, in a new policy has made it compulsory for candidates to pick one university, one polytechnic, one college of education and one innovative enterprise institute (IEI) when registering for their exams.
