WOrld leading education expert Professor John Hattie has questioned some of the key reform policies pursued by governments in the last 20 years. Hattie’s research promises to be useful for education policy makers in Nigeria, who are tasked with the significant duty of improving Nigeria’s struggling education system.

Expectations are indeed high over the performance of Nigeria’s representatives for the 2015 World Schools Debating Championship, currently holding in Singapore and ending on August 6, 2015.

Attempts by authorities of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Akoka, and the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, JAMB, to change the official cut-off point of JAMB from between 180 and 200 to 250 was greeted with protests by some candidates billed to participate in the school’s 2015/2016 post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (post-UTME).

He said that a total number of 19 states in the country owe the Council in respect of entry fees for states government sponsored candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE noting that some States also still owe the Councils registration fees for the May/June 2014 WASSCE. According to him, the 19 states which are indebted to the tune of N4 billion were not making efforts to pay adding that efforts made by the Councils to get the money from them proved abortive, hence WAEC has resolved to make it public.

The Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin (Unilorin), Prof. Abdul Ambali, has said that Nigerian graduates are competing favourably with their peers from across the world.
