THE leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and its local partner Kriston Lally Ngeria EPC, recently visited Athens, Greece to meet with their foreign partners, Kriston-Lally Enterprises and Attikat on the NLC/Kriston-Lally N960 billion Workers Housing Scheme in Nigeria. The NLC was led by its President, Mr. Umar Abdulwaheed.

The Federal Government has commenced the construction of Zaria Water Supply expansion project. The project located in Zaria and Kaduna states was started in 2006 with the construction of Galma multipurpose dam by the Federal Government mainly for supply of raw water to various communities, as well as irrigation and power generation.

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA has acquired 100 Tata mini trucks for effective management of refuse in the state. The acquisition was informed by the need for proper coordination of refuse or domestic waste in some areas where heavy duty refuse disposal trucks cannot access.

SEVEN months after the demolition of 106 houses in Odoragunsin in the old Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, by officials of Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, the affected home owners, under the aegis of Residents and Property Owners at Odoragunsin, RPOO, have appealed to the Lagos House of Assembly to come to their rescue.

AS part of its strategy to transform Delta state into an ideal business and residential destination in Nigeria, the state government has embarked on the development of a multi-billion Naira Warri Industrial Business Park, WIBP. The park which is a mixed project of industrial, commercial and residential developments, is located in Edjeba, in the oil-rich Warri.

In a bid to push through the hike in the prices of petroleum products, former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2004, announced the scrapping of tolling on all the Federal Government -owned roads in the country. One of the reasons adduced by Obasanjo for the increase in the pump price of fuel was the need to raise money to finance the construction and reconstruction of federal highways that were in dilapidated conditions.

First civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande has stressed the importance of housing in human sufvival. Jakande spoke at the 17th annual general meeting, AGM, of the Estate, Rent and Commission Agents Association of Nigeria, ERCAAN. He also urged members of the association to take advantage of the present administration’s interest in real estate, describing the future as great for ERCAAN members.

Sustainable Research Action for Environmental Development, SRADev Nigeria, an environmental non-governmental organisation, NGO championing the campaign to eliminate lead in paints making under the auspices of the International POPs Elimination Network, IPEN, last week called on the federal government to urgently enact mandatory national regulations for limiting lead concentrations in paints. The group also canvassed immediate efforts by the government to eliminate lead in paints as it was done in petrol phase out.

WORRIED by the rate of carbon emitted into the atmosphere from the burning of illicit drugs , substandard materials and similar items by regulatory agencies, the National Environmental Standards and Regulatory Agency, NESREA, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA,have launched sustainable burning equipment to prevent and minimise the destruction of the country’s ecosystem.

THE Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, weekend, said the N69 billion Millennium Tower and Cultural Spine being built at the Central Area of Abuja, the Federal Capital City would be completed by December next year, 2014.
