A Nigerian-Canadian lady, Dr Chika  Olijo, has won the George Frieur Award at the University of Calgary Cummings School of Post Graduate Medical Education, Alberta, Canada; as result of her outstanding performance in their residency programme.

The Faculty of Biological Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka has taken a bold step by beaming its research attention to providing biotherapeutic and biotechnological solutions to the myriads of biosciences and biomedical challenges confronting contemporary society.

THE meeting convened by the federal government over the threat by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, not to embark on strike ended in deadlock weekend, Vanguard has gathered.

A lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Dr Gever Verlumun, has put Nigeria on the global map, as a journal he set up, the Ianna Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies, has outperformed 72 percent of other journals globally under the multidisciplinary category. This is  based on the 2024 data on journal performance released by Scopus in June 2024.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board,JAMB,says its quest to sanitize admissions into the nation’s tertiary institutions has resulted to discovery of 3,000 fake graduates and illegal certificates.

At last, the federal government, Thursday, inaugurated the governing councils of universities, polytechnics and other federal tertiary institutions in the country.

“MSSN Lagos Intellectual Competitions (LIC) hold significant value for the broader community, fostering healthy competition and cultivating critical thinking, public speaking skills, and research abilities among students.”

The last two weeks have seen a series of meetings and sensitisation programmes by workers in the nation’s universities, warning of a possible regime of industrial actions by the workers

As university workers and the government are locked in a battle of wits over welfare issues and others, the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS and the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria,  NAPTAN, have called for caution.
