End these budget embarrassments
On Wednesday, November 23, 2016, the Senate once again rejected the Federal Government’s draft budget for 2017. In addition, they condemned the 2017 to 2019 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) as well as the Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) which accompanied it. Many of the lawmakers were also in support of sending the entire MTEF package back to the Presidency
Awaiting Buhari’s economic recovery blueprint
On Monday, November 21, 2016, the newspapers reported that allocations to the Federal, state and local governments had lost N31.8 billion compared to the September figure. The next day, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed that the economy had shrunk by 2.24 per cent in the third quarter, worse than the second quarter.
Ban on “foreign” rice in Ebonyi
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Mr Dave Umahi, told a delegation of military officers from the Command and Staff College, Jaji on a courtesy call on him, that he would lead a task force of senior government officials to enforce the ban on foreign rice in markets throughout his state.
