The struggle between living and putting a descent meal on the table is a tough one for the common man in Nigeria. No matter how hard he tries, or how far he pushes himself, the tables are not turning favourably for him. He thinks that as nobody seems to notice his ordeal, it must a conspiracy to wipe him out of existence.

It is not really a hard exercise to judge the mood of Nigerians at this time in point. Generally, one can say, it is at the lowest ever in the history of the country.

I know this may sound strange, but every time I see the United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron on television lately I wish he was a Nigerian. This is against the backdrop of condemnations arising from the revelations in the Panama Papers that his late father set up an offshore trust fund in which the PM benefitted from. As I watch Cameron struggle to ward off these criticisms, my sympathies go to him.

In the past two weeks, there have been terrorists attacks that claimed innocent lives, leaving the world and the leaders baffled and shocked with unspoken questions on their lips. They also momentarily brought trepidation to the ordinary men and women on the streets.

It is a pity we are back on this Ekiti State versus the Department of State Services (DSS) imbroglio again. Obviously it will take more than a short time for the mess caused by the arrests and subsequent detention of the four members of the state House of Assembly to be cleaned up by the parties concerned.

The operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have been very busy in recent times. They have been “fingered” in many “developments” all over the country. One can say the agency is fighting for relevance as the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are daily taking the shine away from other security agencies. In this new political dispensation though, the DSS has “reformatted” and has found far wider roles than it had ever did before.

Today is Mother’s Day in some parts of the world. It is the day that has been set aside for the celebration of our mothers and motherhood. On this day, we give special recognition to our mothers, some of whom had been through thick and thin and struggled to make the best possible for us.

Nigerians cannot complain of lack of political leaders. And in the same vein, leaders cannot complain of lack of followers. Over here political leaders are made every second of the day. It is how you project yourself that will establish you as a leader.

Ever since Channels TV made its foray into the United Kingdom broadcasting industry via Sky, I have been hooked on it. I am not the only convert for this station, as many Nigerians in Diaspora tune into Channels TV to keep abreast of events in motherland. The quality of programmes, video, audio and balanced news reports compared with other Nigerian TV stations have endeared diasporans to the station.

As the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron has his works cut out. By the responsibility of the office, one can repeat the worn out saying of “uneasy lies the head that wears the crown” for this young man.

Mr. Donald Trump is a flamboyant and successful United States businessman cum politician who courts controversies and revels in them. Trump is undoubtedly the leading US Republican Party presidential hopeful in the coming elections. A son of a Scottish immigrant mother. But do not be deceived, his mother’s long journey from Scotland to the US has not in any way shaped his views on immigration. It is ironic that his political campaign seem to be anchored on immigration and he is not getting tired very soon of suggesting that immigrants are the cause of the problems in the US.

There is no disputing the fact that Nigeria is in a bad state right now. Everything, both natural and human, seem to have conspired together to work against the country. If you are in doubt of the above assertion, please take a moment and reflect on when last there was any cheery news from the country.
