There was tension, yesterday, at the headquarters of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, and the maritime industry as news filtered out that the recently appointed Director-General of the agency, Mr. Ziakede Akpobolokemi, has resigned.

Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, has lodged an appeal before the Court of Appeal, Lagos, against the order of a Federal High Court, Lagos, which restrained it and the Security and Exchange Commission, SEC, from suspending some former Council members of the NSE from capital market activities over an alleged N1.36 billion-shared bonus crises in the Exchange last year.

NIGERIA Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday, said the Mrs Funke Osibodu led-management of Union Bank of Nigeria, UBN, had declared a war on labour movement, especially NLC and its affiliates, and stressed that the Congress was equal to the task.

In a bid to boost safety in the aviation industry, Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, yesterday, signed a contract worth over $5.8 million with a Canadian firm, CEA/Flightscape, to instal a state-of-the-art equipment in its new laboratory.

India Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, in New Delhi, said that rapid growth in agriculture, though necessary, is not sufficient to produce desirable nutritional and health outcomes among the socially and economically disadvantaged groups of the community.

Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has imposed pre-qualification fees on bidding to insure its assets. This is coming on the heels of
insurance operators accusing government and its agencies of lack of patronage. The electoral body has asked for bidding fees of about N 100, 000.00 from insurance companies and brokers before they are qualified to tender to insure its assets for 2011 if they win the bid.
