AMATEUR Heavyweight boxers are protesting over the decision of the Nigeria Boxing Federation to exclude them from next month’s Commonwealth Games.
One of the affected heavyweight boxers, Yomi Odegbami said the exclusion of the heavyweights was no guarantee the federation would return home from New Delhi with medals from the lighter divisions. He described the decision as unfair and high handed.
Secretary General of NBF, Patrick Uwagbale, had said Nigeria would attend the Oct 3_14 Games with bantamweight, lightweight, featherweight light welterweight, welterweight and middleweight boxers.
Uwagbale said the light heavyweight and heavyweight boxers had been unimpressive in previous international competitions, adding that they were unlikely to do well in India.
He said, “the decision of the federation was wrong”.
