The Fadama III Office in partnership with USAID, has commenced the training of 750 farmers in the Ijebu area of Ogun State.

Mr. Tinuosho Afolabi, a community facilitator of the programme, disclosed this in Ijebu-Ode during the week.
Afolabi said the programme started in July and that 450 farmers had already been trained while the remaining 300 would complete their training in the next two weeks.

He said that the training would cover Ijebu_Ode, Odogbolu, Ijebu North, Ijebu East, Ijebu North_East and waterside.

According to him, the essence of the training is to move farmers from subsistence level of production to small_scale commercial agriculture.

Afolabi explained that farmers from different user groups were being trained on farm business circle, farm business record, monitoring of inflow and outflow of cash and business planning, among others.

The facilitator said that the farmers would re_train others in their various user groups for the knowledge to have a multiplier effect.

Afolabi also expressed the hope that the training would lead to an increase in agricultural production in the state.

He also said that the training would also assist farmers to know how to make savings without running into debt as well as how to keep farm records.

“It is observed that farmers in Nigeria do not know how to keep records of their activities and how they can source for fund.

“We believe that at the end of the day, the training would impart the necessary knowledge into them, “he said.Afolabi said that the three facilitators would conduct training in all the six local governments
