Zain connects subscribers to Facebook, others via SMS

In its bid to keep its numerous subscribers informed with happenings around the world, Zain Nigeria has introduced a special service that would enable subscribers keep up with the latest trends, news, business tips and gossips on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Yahoo via short message service, SMS.

Speaking on the development, the COO, Deepak Srivastava said the new services demonstrated Zain’s commitment to enhancing customers’ lifestyles by providing alternate means of blogging and social networking irrespective of the availability of internet data access on the PC or on data-enabled handsets.

Srivastava stated that Zain’s Twitter SMS service was designed to create direct access to tweets from customers’ mobile phones especially where there was no data access or data-enabled handsets. “With Zain’s twitter SMS, subscribers can receive twitter notifications, tweet and update their profiles directly on their phones via SMS.

As he said, subscribers can send ON to 40405 and START’ to 40404 for Facebook and Twitter at the cost N9 and N10 respectively to activate the service on their phones and follow prompts. For Yahoo Open Chat, customers should send the letter L followed by username, space and password to 38660.
