A truck loaded with cement Wednesday lost control in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, and crushed 13 cars leaving three persons dead and many others injured.
The accident happened at about 10am Wednesday, on the ever-busy Power House Junction after AYA flyover in Asokoro District of Abuja.
Eye witness account who spoke to Vanguard Correspondent, blamed the accident involving the unmarked truck on the recklessness of the driver saying that the driver after descending the flyover from AYA, rammed into cars at the junction awaiting the traffic signals and began arguing and fighting with others.
It took a combine team of Road Safety, Police, VIO, Soldiers and good spirited Nigerians to control the tragedy as they all went to work rescuing victims of the accident and even those trapped under the carnage, before rushing them to hospital.
A woman trapped under the truck for over one hour was lucky to be rescued alive from the carnage when people at the scene offloaded the cements to allow VIO truck lifter to raise the truck thus paving way for the car to be pulled from beneath the truck.
As the car was being pulled out, the woman was heard wailing and pleading to be saved. While many victims were seen in the their pool of blood, with some lying almost lifeless.
An eye witness narrating the account to our correspondent said, “The truck hit a car and in the course of argument between the truck driver and the car owner, the truck started smashing other cars that were in front and on its side. It looked as if the truck driver actually meant to kill today because the car was beneath the truck and the driver of the truck did not care to stop, but crushed the car and other cars around it.â€
The Police, Road Safety and vehicle inspection officers who were at the scene of the accident however failed to speak on the accident when contacted.
