Mayuku honours late pro golfer Ali Abdullahi in Asaba

Late Zaria-based professional golfer Ali Abdullahi who died on his way to Minna few months ago alongside Abuja based pro golfer Christian Godfrey  will be remembered later this month as Ibori Golf and Golf Club captain Daniel Mayuku sponsors a Pro Am tournament in honour of the late golfer in Asaba.

Ali struck a rhythm with Mayuku, who equally fell in love with Ali’s style of playing golf. The Isekiri prince seized the opportunity to develop a relationship with the player. Ali was always in Asaba and on each visit he always had a round of golf with Mayuku and their relationship soared.

When the news of Ali’s demise filtered into Asaba, Mayuku was worst hit. “Ali was more than a friend, he was a brother and a fantastic golfer. He is a gentleman and his quite demeanour attracted him to many amateur golfers”, Mayuku once said about the golfer.

This month Ali will be remembered as a Pro-Am tournament is held in his honour. “We are planning a Pro-Am for Ali Abdullahi later in August in Asaba. Due to the importance of the tourney to IGCC Captain, Mayuku who turns a year older tomorrow say he will not mark his birthday with a tournament as he plans to make the tourney in honour of Ali a big event”, one of the organisers said.

Over 80 pro golfers and 100 amateur golfers are billed to storm Asaba to honour the player who rose to number one on Nigeria’s Order of Merit courtesy of a splendid performance on the local scene. On the foreign scene, Abdullahi won the Peugeot Open in Paris and the Cameroonian Open. Ali and his friends were planning a huge celebration for the Yaounde victory before he met his untimely death.
