World record holder over 100m, Usain Bolt and his main rival Tyson Gay will come face to face for the first time this season at the Samsung Diamond League meeting  in Stockholm on today August 6.

Bolt has not competed against Tyson since he beat the American to a new world record at the World Championships in Berlin, Germany last year.

Also present on the bill is Asafa Powell who will add bite to the rivalry just like it was in Berlin 2009 when the trio battled hard for supremacy, but Bolt triumphantly rode to a new world record in the 100m with a 9.58 seconds. Gay set a new American record of 9.71, while Powell finished at 9.84 seconds.

Another field of contest will include the woman long jump where a rematch of last week European championships will be on the pit.

European Champion Ineta Radevica of Latvia and Portugal’s silver medallist Naide Gomes, who both jumped 6.92m in Barcelona, and Russian Olga Kucherenko, the current world season leader with 7.13, who won bronze with 6.84m in Barcelona, may very well threaten Galina Tjistiakovas 21 year old stadium record of 7.05m.

But the same could also be said about Russia’s Lyudmila Kolchanova and American Brittney Reese. Kolchanova is currently third on the 2010 lists with 7.01 and was fifth in Barcelona, while Reese who has a personal best of 7.10m and so far has a best in 2010 of 6.94m, is the reigning World indoor and outdoor champion.

Reese with two Samsung Diamond League victories is the current leader of the Diamond Race in the women’s Long Jump.

This is something that will interest Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare. She could be competition with these women at the London 2012 Olympics, where hopefully she could improve on her 6.90m personal best. That is the only guarantee for a gold.
