UGHELLI — AT least 61 prominent Deltans including one-time Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the State, Olorogun Ebenezer Okorodudu, Chief Edafevwotu Akpovire, Chief Tony Oviri, were yesterday appointed as Justice of the Peace, JP, by the state government.
Also appointed are Chief Peter Oru, Chief Okiemute Oviri, Prince Ejiro Erhenede, Chief David Ohwokehwo, among others. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Judge of the state, Justice Rosaline Bozimo, said the appointment was necessitated by the desire of the state government to bring justice closer to the people and minimize crime in the society.
Charging them to be transparent in their actions and decisions, she said it was their duty to preserve peace, suppress riots and affray and disperse all forms of disorderliness in their communities.
Bozimo, represented by Justice Felix Ohwo, said the state government would not hesitate to ensure that any of them found wanting in their duties, is shown the way out without minding whose ox is gored. Olorogun Okorodudu, Chief Akpovire and Chief Oviri, thanked the state government for finding them worthy of the appointment and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in them by government.
