Korea trip: Eguavoen banks on local players

A rash of withdrawals from his Europe-based players means Nigeria caretaker coach Austin Eguavoen says he will look to his domestic league contingent to prosecute this month’s friendly against South Korea.

“He has said that he will take at least 10 home-based players to Seoul for the friendly,” NFF Acting Chief Media Officer Robinson Okosun told KickOffNigeria.com.

Vincent Enyeama, Osaze Odemwingie, Ike Uche, John Mikel Obi, Haruna Lukman, Dele Adeleye, and Obinna Nsofor have all withdrawn from the squad through a combination of injuries and club commitments.

Striker Michael Eneramo turned down a late call_up, leaving Eguavoen with slim pickings to select from.
The former Nigeria defender however, will be happy to have the likes of Danny Shittu, Dickson Etuhu, Sam Sodje, Joseph Akpala, Obafemi Martins, Kalu Uche, Dele Aiyenugba and Olympic silver medallist Solomon Okoronkwo in his squad. The team are scheduled to leave for Seoul on August 7, where they will be joined by the Europe-based group.
