NIGERIA Labour Congress, NLC, has resolved to call for a definite time frame within which all outstanding payments must be completed to avoid it dragging indefinitely with the attendant risk of recurring industrial action.

Leaders of NLC in a communique at the end of their National Executive Council, NEC meeting in Akure, Ondo, said: “NEC deliberated on the frustrations of workers following hiccups they have continued to witness in the payment of monetisation benefits and expressed its dissatisfaction on the inability of government to smoothly operationalise a major policy it initiated.

NEC resolved to call for a definite time frame within which all outstanding payments must be completed to avoid it dragging indefinitely with the attendant risk of recurring industrial action.”

….Frowns at Degree/HND dichotomy

NLC, has expressed concern over what it considers as the renewed effort by the Federal Government to re-introduce the dichotomy between degree holders and their counterparts with HND.

Leaders of NLC in a communique at the end of their National Executive Council, NEC meeting in Akure, Ondo state, said the “NEC-in-session frowned at the renewed effort by the Federal Government to re-introduce the dichotomy between degree holders and their counterparts with HND.

NEC-in-Session feels that the economy will not benefit from this unnecessary distinction and calls for the maintenance of the previous parity position which the government under former President Olusegun Obasanjo had instituted, meant to address the unhelpful dichotomy and which removed the barrier restricting their progression in the civil service.”

Ex-NLC auditor, ex-NUSDE President, Anokwuru is dead

TWO term Internal auditor, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and former President of the National Union of Shops and Distributive Employees, NUSDE, Comrade Billy Bright Anokwuru is dead.

Comrade BB Anokwuru as fondly called, on Tuesday 20th July, 2010. He was a consistent anti-casual labour campaigner.

NUSDE in a statement issued by its General Secretary, Comrade Sule .A. Babatunde, said: “With heavy hearts and deep sorrow the National Union of Shop and Distributive Employees, N.U.S.D.E, announce the sudden demise of our colleague and mentor , Comrade Billy Bright Anokwuru which sad event occurred on Tuesday 20th July, 2010.”

Late Comrade B.B. Anokwuru, an indefatigable and astute trade unionist, was our National President from 1998 to 2005, also the National Auditor of the Nigeria Labour Congress (N.L.C.) from 1999 to 2007 and until his death the Vice Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of Labour Party. Details of his obsequies shall be made public after due consultation with his family.”

….Ehromosele, ASSBIFI’s Gen Sec too

GENERAL Secretary of the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and other Financial Institution, ASSBIFI, Comrade Jarvis Ehromosele, is dead.

Labour Vanguard gathered Comrade Erhomosele died last Friday after a brief illness.

Commenting on the sad development, President of ASSBIFI, Comrade Adeshina Sanni, lamented that the association had lost a pillar and a consummate unionist, declaring that the vacuum created by the demise of Comrade Erhomosele would be difficult to fill.
