* It’s a wild statement, says Akala

 IBADAN—JUST as the police are grappling with how to probe the allegation of murder against the Oyo State Governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala and two others, a former Governor of the state, Alhaji Lam Adesina, has alleged that the governor had concluded plans to assassinate him and two prominent governorship aspirants of the Action Congress, AC, in the state.

This came as the Oyo North Senatorial District of the party challenged the governor to give vivid explanation on how he allegedly spent over N250 billion from federation account in the last three years.

In a statement by Chairman, Oyo North Senatorial District, Mr. Bayo Olagbenro, the party also faulted the governor for allegedly allowing the issue of ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, to generate animosity between Oyo and Osun states.

On the alleged assassination plot against the ex-governor of the state, Adesina warned the State Security Services and the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Baba Adisa Bolanta not to treat the alarm as a child’s play.

He said: “With the intelligent report at my disposal, I reliably gathered that Governor Adebayo Alao Akala had concluded plan to kill me and some AC leaders in the state for him to realize his second term ambition.”

But, Akala through his Special Adviser on Public Communication, Prince Dotun Oyelade,  described it as a wild statement.

He said: “Alhaji Adesina is replicating two similar scenarios in the wake of the 2003 gubernatorial election. That time, within 2 weeks, he alleged that, Alhaji Adedibu of blessed memory and President Obasanjo wanted him dead and that the plans were hatched at the Ondo street residence of Senator Ladoja. Alhaji Adesina made the allegation public without recourse to Police authority even in his capacity as a sitting Governor.

“Coming at this period and soon after a similar incongruous statement was made has therefore become an unfortunate stock in trade. But this is an old strategy to simulate crisis. Whoever advised Alhaji Adesina to take that alarmist course has not done his reputation a word of good.

Now, the law enforcement agents must force them to divulge all ‘evidence at their disposal instead of throwing bombshell and running for cover.”
