The kind of NFA we need now, Obienu

By Kate Obodo
As election into the new NFA board  draws near, former vice chairman of the association, Barrister Richard Nwabufo Obienu has said the new NFA should be made up of  people  with the interest of football and the nation at heart.

According to him, the past NFA board ruined the country’s football due to their self gain, which has put the country football in disarray.

In a chat  with Sunday Vanguard Sports, the Enugu- based lawyer said the country needs genuine people who will move the country’s football forward.

“Well the type of NFA I want is  the kind that will have our national interest at heart, an NFA that will be committed to grassroots and development of  football in Nigeria. An NFA that will not run after competitions because competitions have done harm to our football, and most importantly an NFA that will be ruled by the conscience of God. But the issue is that we can not get  that kind of NFA under this present dispensation.

“I will say it again, that  the present dispensation is full of fraud and no right thinking person will come in and give his best, because the cabal is still in -charge.

He queried, how can we have a NFA that will be elected by the state FA that their tenure has expired? How can we have NFA that is elected by the state FA, where the state FA  chairman during the last World Cup and others  were taken to South Africa and  EFCC told  us that each of them spent about  5million.

How can you have a good NFA where the system is sealed with  fraud? I keep saying this if we want to have a decent FA that is commercial oriented and fair we must do the right thing. And the right is, first dissolve all the state FA whose tenure have expired.

We should start from the grassroots, the State FA will hold their election and put an FA board that will run a four year programme and those state FA will now select the new NFA.
