Ijaw youths reject Ogulagha polls

By Samuel Oyadongha
Yenagoa—Some aggrieved members of the Ijaw Youth Council (Worldwide) have faulted the recent election of the body held at Ogulagha, Delta State, insisting it was fraught with irregularities.

They vowed to challenge the entire process and its outcome.
Specifically, they accused the electoral committee of manipulating the electoral process to favour a “pre-determined team.”

The aggrieved members in a statement by their spokesman, Dr. Opukiri Tonye, made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, said the electoral committee allegedly engaged in frequent changing of voters’ list, arbitrary removal of legible voters’ names from the list as well as hijacking of compilation of delegates’ lists by certain zonal officers with inducements from Abuja after several nocturnal meetings.

Other acts reportedly perpetrated by the committee, according to Tonye, included tampering with the order in which the names of aspirants appeared at both the screening and manifesto/debate stages, replacement of aspirants’ well known names or surnames with names not known to delegates, among others.
