MINISTER of Commerce and Industry, Senator Jibril Martins Kuye, has disclosed that Nigeria was prepared to do business with Ukraine once it is ready to respect the country’s cultural and educational ties.
Speaking in Abuja when a delegation of Ukraine Businessmen visited his office, Kuye, who noted that the country’s environment was becoming more friendly for investors, called for the setting up of Ukraine/Nigeria Chambers of Commerce to help drive the investment opportunities that abound in both countries.
Meanwhile, Nigerian Ambassador to Ukraine, Mr. Ibrahim Pada Kasai, also disclosed at the event that Nigeria and Ukraine have begun moves to help improve the existing gaps in trade transaction of both countries geared towards enhancing the economic relations between the two countries.
The envoy, who lamented the very low level of business transactions between both countries considering the abundant trade opportunities, said, “Very frankly, I must tell you about the ingenuity of the Ukrainians, they are genuinely ready to transfer their renowned technology in the area of power transmission, manufacturing and transport which Nigeria needs at a critical point like this.â€
Kasia, who led a 15 man delegation of Ukrainian investors on a 2 day visit to Nigeria, noted that more than 4000 Nigerians were currently residing in Ukraine, just as he stressed that the fight against corruption and illegality by the Federal Government has moved the country forward, adding that foreigners who initially perceived Nigeria in bad light were beginning to have a different perception of Nigeria.
