WARRI—CHAIRMAN of the People Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi has thrown his weight behind Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan over his recent threat to sack treacherous Commissioners and other aides.
Also, the Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence, FJHD, headed by Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi, said in a statement in Warri, that the charge by His Excellency “is the practice obtainable politically nationwide.â€
Chief Nwaoboshi who spoke in an exclusive interview with Vanguard at Asaba, said, “I was a political appointee before now. We were taught to be loyal to who is a constituted authority. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is the President and I will not be seen in the public as rubbishing the President just like I cannot be seen to be rubbishing a sitting Governor as a PDP chairman.â€
“So, the same applies to the Governor’s appointees, such as commissioners and others. If you think you can no longer function with an authority, you should pull out. Any Minister who feels he can no longer work with Dr. Jonathan should go and if any Commissioner also feels he can no longer work with Dr. Uduaghan, he should go. Why are you sitting there, go to the field and test your popularity.â€
On the same issue, FJHD in a statement by Mr. Ikimi said, “we welcome the charge by Dr. Uduaghan to disloyal members of his cabinet to either purge themselves of such disloyalty within two weeks or be booted out of office, as the above decision of the Governor is the practice obtainable politically worldwideâ€.
“We also use this medium to call on all disgruntled politicians in the state to abhor the use of verbal combats on the pages of newspapers ahead of the 2011 general elections as a means of either canvassing their selfish agenda or expressing their political bitterness, since the above medium employed by these politicians are often devoid of issues and concrete facts but rather are based on name calling, greed and self aggrandizement,” he added.
“We make bold to state that the above medium is no doubt a lazy way of canvassing for votes from the electorates ahead of the next general elections by politiciansâ€, the group asserted.
According to the group, “We therefore without patronizing and/or holding brief for any politician or political officeholder, call on the electorates to be alert and be weary of these pretentious politicians feigning genuine intentions for the masses but have iniquitous impregnations to unleash their greed and selfish agenda on unsuspecting electoratesâ€.
