Ondo: APC chieftain calls for sustained training of INEC adhoc staff

A chieftain of the APC, Mr Danladi Basali, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to lay emphasis on the training of adhoc staff to reduce the incidence of inconclusive elections in the country.

He made the call while speaking in Abuja on Saturday against the backdrop of the governorship election in Ondo State.

Basali noted that some of the adhoc staff normally deployed to rural areas were not properly trained, a development he said could lead to inefficiency and compromise in the electoral process.

This development, he said, often contributed to cancellation of election results in the country.

He also called on the electorate to shun money politics in the interest of democracy and good governance.

Basali said that with enhanced political enlightenment, the electorate would be able to understand the danger inherent in money politics.

Commenting on the election, the chieftain called on the contestants to demonstrate good sportsmanship, adding that there should be no ‘’winner syndrome in the final analysis.’’

Also speaking, Mr Olaye Aina, an ICT expert, urged the would-be governor in the exercise not to betray the trust reposed in him by the electorate.

“ Let the process of democracy happen, that is my hope; INEC should follow its electoral guidelines and processes to ensure free, fair and credible election, ’’ he said.
