Jos—The Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, Sheikh Abdulaziz Yusuf, was, Wednesday evening, kidnapped alongside his driver in a community in Kaduna State.
The Sheikh, who resides in Jos, Plateau State, travelled to meet with Sheikh Khalid Aliyu in Kaduna State, preparatory for a journey to Sokoto on a condolence visit over the death of Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki.
It was gathered that the Sheikh’s last phone communication was recorded around 6p.m., where he mentioned that he was approaching Kaduna city.
Plateau State JNI Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sani Mudi, who confirmed the incident to Vanguard on phone, said the kidnappers had contacted family members and had asked them to prepare to pay ransom.
Mudi added: “The incident has left all of us traumatised; that such a peaceful man could be kidnapped. We are in shock, but the Plateau State government is working with its Kaduna State counterpart and security agencies in the two states to see how we can address the situation.”
He urged citizens of the two states to be calm and pray for the safe return of the Islamic scholar.
