Why military subdued terrorism in North East, by Defence Minister

Minister of Defence, Brig-Genl Mansur Mohammed Dan-Ali

By Joseph Erunke

ABUJA—MINISTER of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, yesterday, explained that the secret behind the considerable achievements made by the military in its fight against terrorism in the North East was not only due to change of attitude by security agents involved in the counter-terrorism war, but also the political will by the government.

He said for the military to achieve its aim of defeating terrorism, its men must have attitudinal change and a new commitment to their responsibilities.

The minister, whose message was contained in a keynote address he delivered at the opening of the 2016 Defence Advisers and Attaches’ Annual Conference, organised  by the Defence Intelligence Agency, in Abuja, noted that a sustainable peace could not be achieved side by side with acts of injustice, human rights abuses and misappropriation of resources entrusted to those to execute war against terror.

He charged the military to harness the best ideas and innovations for a comprehensive improvement to project a decisive force against terrorism.

“Let me therefore reiterate my belief that our recent successes against terrorism signify that we can achieve much more through the right attitude, the right effort in the right direction at the right time  under the leadership and political will,“ he said.
