…as FG licenses 6 slots of 2.6 MHz Spectrum

The Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has called on Federal government to merge the National Communications Commission, NCC and the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC to avoid unnecessary duplication of functions by both agencies.

The Governor made the call on Friday at the 4th Edition of the National Council on Communication Technology, NCCT holding in Kaduna.

As a country in recession, Governor El-Rufai said Nigeria requires a well articulated policy framework to reap from the huge benefits inherent in the ICT sector, which can only be achieved through the harmonization of existing National Policy on Communication and Broadcasting.

“In my view, the existing National Policy on Communication and Broadcasting are overdue for  harmonization to recognize digital convergence. We recognize digital convergence and increasing movement towards mobile platform.

“There must be institutional and regulatory framework to enable optimal use  of our IT endowment  and the unprecedented development in the sector.
