ABEOKUTA—Ogun State Police Command has arrested five members of the Eiye cult group, believed to have been on the wanted list of the Command.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said that the suspects were arrested when policemen attached to Sango Otta Division led by their DPO, Akinsola Ogunwale, were carrying out raids on criminal hideouts and black spots around Ijoko area of Ota.
Oyeyemi, who identified the suspects as Segun Owolabi, Sunday Alaba, Abonode Samson, Olalekan Adeyemi and Samson Udoribang, said they had all confessed to being members of Eiye confraternity, which has been terrorising Ota and its environs.
He said that the command recovered an alleged stolen Toyota Camry car with number plates Lagos JW 857 AAA, a parcel of weeds, suspec-ted to be Indian hemp and assorted charms.
“The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the suspects be thoroughly investigated and charged to court.
“He further stated that the Command will not leave any stone unturned in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements,” Oyeyemi stated.
