ENUGU—The Enugu State Police Command, yesterday, through its Anti-Kidnap Unit, rescued an 84-year-old woman Roseline Odoh,and daughter, Josephine, allegedly abducted on September 22, by suspected kidnappers.
The victims were allegedly abducted from their family house at Ogbelle, Ohullor in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State by gunmen and were taken to their hideout where they demanded N50 million ransom.
It was gathered that the operatives on receipt of the information, swung into action and intensified manhunt on the fleeing suspects and rescued the victims.
Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu, Superintendent of Police, confirmed their rescue in a statement to newsmen adding that,”the ensuing search for the victims paid off as the suspects were traced to a bush located at Orokam, in Benue State after an encounter with the operatives in conjunction with the community security.”
“The encounter left one of the suspected kidnappers later identified as one Nnabuike Ukwueze,alias Nwansukka of Iheaka,Igboeze-South Local Government Area,fatally injured and later was rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead.
“However,upon his (deceased) revelation,three suspects were nabbed namely; Ernest Ikeani of Awgu, Sunday Asogwa of Ohullor,Obolloafor Udenu and Nonso Nwude just as the woman and the daughter were promptly rescued unhurt without any harm.
“Recovered from the suspects is a Renault car with registration number UWN 992 LN allegedly used by the hoodlums.
Suspects are helping the operatives in their investigations. The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, has applauded the efforts of his operatives as well as the partnership between members of the public with the state command as well as sister security agencies and maintained that the command will stop at nothing at ensuring that Enugu state continues to maintain its position as the safest and warn would be criminals to desist from their evil ways and turn a new leaf.”
