Stakeholders divided over Customs’ anti-corruption stance

By Godfrey Bivbere

STAKEHOLDERS are divided over the anti-corruption stance of the leadership of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS since the resumption of the new Comptroller General, Col Ahmed Alli, 11 months ago.

While some are of the opinion that the crusade has failed, others say the process is gradually taking shape while some believe it is only a front.

Deputy President of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents, NCMDLCA, Uchu Block, said there is nothing going on presently to show that the Service is fighting corruption because for some of the officers it is business as usual.

He even insinuated that the problem of corruption is even more now in Customs.

Scepticism of the crusade

Similarly, National President of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents, ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, said people are becoming sceptical of the crusade as nothing seems to be on ground to show that there is any progress being made.
