ABAKALIKI-OHANAEZE Ndigbo Youth Council yesterday declared as false the claim by some members of the leader of Indigenes People of Biafra (IPOB) that the former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State threatened to kill Nnamdi Kanu.
Chairman of the Youth wing of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, Ebonyi stat chapter, Mazi Alex Okemiri warned the group not to drag the name of the former governor to the mud.
Alex refuted the claim in a statement issued in Abakaliki.
The statement read in part: “I was present at the occasion at Eke in Udi Local government of Enugu state during the reception for the Minister of foreign Affairs and the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, Ambassador Onyeama and Chief Osita Okechukwu respectively.
“And at no point did the former governor of Anambra state in the person of His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi threatened to kill Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the leader of Indigenes People of Biafra (IPOB) who is now in
prison custody nor did he(Peter Obi ) speak at the occasion, so I wonder where the group got the information”, Okemiri explained.
Mazi Okemiri who further declared the allegation as baseless stressed that some mischief makers and enemies of the former governor of Anambra state were those championing the rumor which he described as unrealistic.
He maintained that the objective of those mischief makers were targeted at smearing the achievements and political aspirations of the immediate past governor of Anambra state.
“He has never been indicted of any corruption charges let alone threatening to kill a person like Nnamdi Kanu who is heavily guarded in prison custody by Nigeria security agencies; please for Christ sake this is not time for cheap political games.
“So am using this opportunity to call on those peddling this rumour to repent and stop this tissue of lies, Ndigbo is one, and our prayers is that unity, peace and love shall abide in us always so that together we will drive our course together, essentially in 2019 elections”, he said.
