The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Tuesday urged petroleum tanker drivers to avoid accident and drive smoothly to stay alive during Eld-el-Fitr celebration.

Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, the South-West Chairman of the union, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

According to Korodo, highways used to be free during the holiday thereby our drivers should not use the opportunity to drive recklessly during this period.

“It is good to drive safely and stay alive, you should not capitalise on the condition of the road to drive recklessly.

“Drive according to the road guidelines by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), so that you will be free from their operatives,” he said.

He urged drivers to put into practice all they had learnt during the April, 2016 Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Training Workshop, where more than 3, 000 drivers were trained.

Korodo commended Buhari’s administration for reconstituted the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) board, adding that it was a welcome development in oil and gas sector.

He said the new board would ensure effective and efficient handling of policies in the corporation.

On July 4, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the composition of the board of NNPC, as provided for under Section 1(2) of the NNPC Act of 1997, as amended.

The new board, according to a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, is chaired by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu.
