The Speaker of the House, Mr. Peter Azi had read a communication from Governor, Simon Lalong asking for the extension of the tenure of the chairmen of the 17 councils to six month to enable government plan to conduct local government election in the state.

According to the Governor’s letter, “the six month extension is to allow the government to put some necessary machinery in place for a conducive conduct of the council poll in the state.“

It would be recalled that since the governor sacked the substantive chairmen and instituted the management committee, the tenure of the committee chairmen had been renewed for two months on three occasions.
