Court admits confessional statement on murder of Abuja bizman

By Faith Ake

THE High Court II, Maitama, Abuja, has admitted the confessional statement made by suspected killers of 39-year-old businessman, Tony Eze, in the Federal Capital Territory, two years ago.

Justice Salisu Umar admitted the statement following submissions by the prosecution and defence counsel. Defence counsel had opposed the submission of the statement on the grounds that it was not voluntarily made by the first suspect in the case.

Those charged for the alleged murder are Anayo Eze, Samuel Okoro, Emmanuel Igwe, Idris Shaibu alias Calamity, Okechukwu Nelson and Augustine Nwamba.

In its ruling, the court held that there was no legal impediment baring the court from admitting the confessional statement of the first accused in evidence, and then adjoined till June 24 for further hearing.
