Nigerian hospitals have been urged to seek international accreditation in order to operate under global best practices that would deter Nigerians from travelling abroad for medical treatment.

Giving the admonition in Lagos, one-time National President, Association of General Private Medical Practitioners of Nigerian, AGPMPN, Dr. Anthony Omolola, said international accreditation would put local hospitals at par with hospitals in other countries.

Speaking ahead of the 2016 Nigerian Health Care Excellence Awards, NHEA, Omolola called for healthy competition among healthcare providers.

“When there is no competition, health care providers can offer poor health services to their clients.

“The health sector in Nigeria is presently in a state of chaos. Resident doctors are on strike, funding and medical tourism are challenges. We must spur health care providers and professionals to do better despite the hurdles,” he stated.
