Uyo—MEMBERS of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the Speaker, Mr Onofiok Luke.
The motion for the confidence vote was moved by Idongesit Ituen, member representing Itu state constituency, during yesterday’s plenary following social media reports alleging plans by some politicians from Uyo federal constituency to replace Luke with one of the members elected during the re-run poll held recently in the state.
The lawmakers in their separate contributions, described the media reports as uncalled for, stressing that they would continue to support Speaker Luke’s leadership.
They noted that his leadership has so far demonstrated transparency, accountability and effective representation and urged mischief makers to leave the House alone.
Member representing Ibiono Ibom state constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Information, Ime Okon said, “The rumours going on in some quarters are mere distractions intended to make this House to lose focus.
“The Speaker has demonstrated capacity. He has demonstrated efficiency and good leadership. The social media reports are mere distractions and uncalled for because we will remain focused. So, my constituency and I have confidence in the leadership of the Speaker.”
