BENIN—AHEAD of the September 10, 2016 governorship election in Edo State, the National Auditor, South South, of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Berry Negerese, has charged the leaders of the party in the state to adopt the recommendations of the Senator Ike Ekweremadu-led Committee by selling the manifesto of the party to Edo voters.

He noted that the party’s elites alone cannot guarantee victory for the PDP unless the entire people of the state were carried along on the activities and visions of the party ahead of the governorship election.

Speaking in Benin City shortly after a meeting with leaders of the party in the state, Negerese said: “Edo is a PDP state and you are aware that this is the only state in the South South that is not controlled by the PDP. It was internal disagreement that led to the then ACN winning the state but we are ready now to take Edo State back to PDP.

“We have been meeting and talking to our leaders in Edo State on the need to reconcile our differences and face the real election with a focus to win. We have told them that we must adopt the Ekweremadu report of PDP, we must bring the party back to the people. My advice to Edo PDP leaders is that the mighty, the low, the rich and the poor, should all come back together and see the party as superior to anybody.

“The masses, I can tell you, are with PDP. We must all come together and tell our people that the party is for everybody, the elders, the youths and women. PDP is the only alternative to All Progressives Congress, APC-led government in Edo State because we must win this election and bring back Edo State to PDP. The state cannot be left out in the South South and I can tell you that the election will go to PDP whether the APC likes it or not.”
