AS the zero hour to the make or break AFCON 2017 qualifier between Nigeria and Egypt on March 25 approaches swiftly, stand-in coach, Samson Siasia is confident that his Eagles will convert the chances that come their way at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.
With fans anxiety reaching feverish height, the Eagles come up against an Egyptian side who are desperate to book a ticket to Gabon 2017 after their last AFCON tournament in Angola in 2010.
The north Africans, who are record winners of Africa’s flagship soccer tournament head into Friday’s crunchy tie with a two-point lead over their hosts, who need to win to top the table, heading into the reverse fixture in Alexandria on March 29.
And speaking last night on television, Siasia said his charges were going to take their chances even as he expressed concerns over his defence following injuries to Kenneth Omeruo and Leon Balogun.
“I am concerned about our defence because no coach is happy when his players are injured heading into a important match. But there is nothing we can do about that again than to make do with what we have.
“We do not have much time again to do most of the things we would have loved to do in training but I am sure that we will take our chances against Egypt. I have seen a lot of tapes on the Egyptians and would share them with the players so that they can know what to expect on Friday and next week Tuesday”, added Siasia on Super Sport.
