This certainly is not the best of times for Dahiru Bala’s family,  whose son, Yunusa, aka Yellow, allegedly abducted Bayelsa girl Ese Oruru, converted her to Islam and forcibly married her.The controversial abduction  may have compelled  the family to relax its Sharia compliant  lifestyle when  it  let Sunday Vanguard team into  its  mud house located at Kauyen Tofa, to feel the pulse of  Yunusa’s mother.

Though the encounter was snappy, the woman, who identified herself as Maimuna, opened a chapter in the Yunusa/Ese affair.

The 44-years-old housewife was bewildered by the attention accorded what she termed a “private life of two individuals” in love.

Maimuna  said: “All  of a sudden, my house has become a  Mecca  of sorts,  and while I  continue  to wonder the intrusion  into  our private  lives,  the more I  am  confused about the  unnecessary spotlight”.

Letting Sunday Vanguard into what  she knew about the crisis, the mother  revealed that the Dahitu  and Ese Oruru families  were no  stranger to each other.

Her words: “My boy has been with them for 10 years,  and when we heard of a love relationship between Yunusa and Ese, my husband did  the needful to arrest the situation.

”We may be poor and uneducated, but the fact remains that we run our lives based  on the dictates of our religion, and we don’t need anyone to lecture us on the illegality of  Yunusa’s action”.

The encounter with the embattled  mother was punctured  by sobs from Maimuna who expressed confidence that her son would overcome  the trial.”I don’t doubt the fact that Yunusa is passing through a difficult phase in his life which I know is a fulfillment of destiny and it is therefore our duty to identify with him and pray to  Allah to see him through”.

Meanwhile, as  Yunusa’s mother narrated her story, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 1 told Sunday Vanguard that  the alleged abductor’s action was criminality in the eye of the law.The  AIG, Shu’aibu Lawal Gambo, said:  “We have at our disposal an established case of abduction and the law would treat it the way it is”.
