Beko’s anniversary lecture, rally holds today

LagosTEN years after the death of the late human rights activist, Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti, associates and friends would hold an anniversary lecture and wreath laying ceremony in his honour today.

Beko_Kuti_seriousThe events which would be convened by different groups in Lagos would be a platform for Nigeria’s democracy to be mirrored in the light of the contributions of the late Beko to the enthronement of democratic rule.

The Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin led Campaign for Democracy would hold a wreath laying ceremony and rally at the Beko Memorial Cenotaph while  the lecture being convened by the Beko Kuti Memorial Anniversary Committee would take place at Airport Hotel.

This came as Okei-Odumakin, urged Nigerians to continue the struggle for the functionality of the rule of law and constitutional growth which Beko lived and died for.

She said: ‘’ Beko was committed to the struggle and belonged to a few in the world who can be easily recognised by their first name. It is difficult to find people like him because he fought for the rule of law and constitutional democracy.”

The Lagos State governor, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode and a former governor of the state are among expected guests at the Airport Hotel lecture which is entitled:  Sustaining Nigeria’s Democracy: The Realities,The Challenges and the Prospects.
