ENUGU—Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has enjoined Christians in the state to celebrate the Christmas, praying for the country in these hard times.
He urged them to pray with faith and trust in God, knowing that redemptive mission of Christ who died on the cross for mankind was ushered in by Christmas in which Christians celebrate his birth.
The governor spoke at a church service to mark Christmas celebration at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Independence Layout, Enugu. He urged the people of the state to remain prayerful as the state was in the hands of God.
Meanwhile, a cross-section of public servants, yesterday, commended Governor Ugwuanyi for paying them their December salary on the 21st day of the month despite the biting economic situation.
The workers have been receiving their salaries on the 25th of every month and had thought that they would celebrate the Christmas without taking their salaries but the governor surprised them with alerts of payment.
