Unified Driver’s License: Lagos to curb extortion using cashless policy

The Lagos State Government, through the Management of Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), has once again reiterated its commitment to curb touting and other forms of malpractices in the issuance of the Unified Driver’s License (UDL) in all the processing points across the State through its cashless operational policy.

According to a release from the Office of the Permanent Secretary (MVAA), TPL Ayodele Adediran, all payments by applicants are to be made through any of its participating banks – UBA, FCMB, ECO, First bank and Sterling bank.

The statement warns its staff that under no circumstance should they charge or collect any payment from any applicant in the course of processing their drivers’ license as such act is against accountability, transparency and probity drive of the current administration.

While advising motorists to obtain genuine Drivers’ License and other vehicular documents from the various MVAA Stations across the State, the government urged them to desist from patronizing touts in order to avoid procuring fake documents.

It also revealed that there are over 50, 000 unclaimed Permanent Drivers License and therefore called on applicants whose licenses had been processed to come forward for collection at the stations where they had applied, stressing that the MVAA is committed to providing quality service to the general public.
