Ebonyi State government has reassured of the imminent resolution of the impasse between it and the organised labour in the state over the payment of workers salaries.
Briefing newsmen at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House, Abakaliki, on the state Executive Council meeting, the state Commissioner for Information, Sen. Emmanuel Onwe, said the government accorded priority to the welfare of the work force, and reiterated that Governor Dave Umahi had a fruitful meeting with the leadership of the workers on how to address the lingering issue of payment of salaries.
He said that the council noted, with dismay, the directive by the leadership of labour unions that workers should embark on strike with effect from Tuesday, when the committee set up by the state government on the matter had already started making attempts to resolve the problem. Onwe, who remarked that the council expressed disappointment over the procedure adopted in awarding contracts by the immediate past government, cited the contract for the building of two hostel blocks and a lecture hall at Ebonyi State University permanent site as an instance.
