*** Says it is a watershed in the political evolution of Nigeria

ABUJA – BOARD of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has described the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator Ike Ekweremadu as President and Deputy President of the Senate respectively as good for democracy.

Speaking Thursday, in Abuja during a visit by PDP chieftains from across the country, PDP BoT Acting Chairman, Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed said that the emergence of Bi-partisan National Assembly was a watershed in the political evolution of Nigeria as a country, adding that the new bi-partisan leadership of the 8th National Assembly was the best for Nigeria’s march towards democratic growth and development.

According to him, the election of the new leaders of the 8th National Assembly was a great display by the law makers that national interest and collective good of the generality of Nigerians should override narrow, personal and parochial interest and that Nigeria’s unity, peace, stability and development will continue to be on the legislative front burner.

The BoT Chairman stressed that the emergence of the new Senate President from the ruling APC and the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu from the opposition, PDP in a free, fair and transparent contest, represents the collective readiness and resolve of the nation’s political class across party divide to launch the nation on the path of people – oriented democracy.
